About

The Lighthouse Works is an arts collective on Fishers Island, New York. Our mission is to create an environmentally and economically sustainable nonprofit organization dedicated to improving life for artists and islanders alike.  The Lighthouse Works will offer residencies, fellowships and/or affordable live-work space to artists—all supported by several small businesses, or cottage industries.  The nonprofit will serve to increase the year-round island population, to provide artists with the space and time to do their best creative work, and to support and enrich the Fishers Island community.

Current Fellows

We are thrilled to announce that our fellowship program is off to a running start with two inaugural fellowships.  Our fellows, a writer and a visual artist, will arrive in early December for a four-week stay on lovely, if somewhat chilly, Fishers Island.  The Lighthouse Works provides fellows with transportation, room and board, studio space, and a stipend.

Check back soon for news on the fellows’ agenda, which will include a brief residency in the Fishers Island School and a gallery opening and reading.

Cottage Industries

Our cottage industries are small businesses that pull in revenue to support our fellowship program.  Some of them are also creative industries that fulfill our passions and will, eventually, provide stimulating employment for island residents or fellows.

Our first fledgling industries include:

Good Wax, a re-imagined way forward in independent music

Mayonnaise Press, a print shop offering commercial printing for your on-island needs and letterpress printed matter for everyone.
